Agile Interview with THG

There are few things as flattering as being asked to provide your opinion to others.  In this interview with Teague Hopkins I was asked to provide an introduction to Agile, and to briefly describe how it relates to Lean Startup.  I hope that you find this information useful!

On a tangentially related note, it’s interesting for me to reflect on our impromptu discussion and see how I might refine my delivery.  Simply taking the time to reflect goes a long way.  </shameless plug about how great retrospectives can be>

Technical Debt

One option is to cut corners in order to get your product out the door.  Cutting these corners may not hurt you today or tomorrow, but if left unattended and ignored, these debts will sneak up on you like a mid-life crisis.  What once was manageable becomes catastrophic.

It was working… right up until it wasn’t

Failing systems can be sneaky. They can look like they’re working just fine, right up until they experience a catastrophic failure. Look no further than the mortgage crisis. It was working right up until it wasn’t.

If you’re feeling too comfortable with your current project, it might help to step back and challenge your assumptions. Set ego aside and make sure that your system is actually working.
